Completed Projects: The Final Days with Diego de San Martin

In November of 2010, Diego's family was told that he had eight months to live. He was going to lose his fight, and his life, to brain and lung cancer. I met him and his family six months later and they allowed me to come into their lives in these very delicate time and document their life as it unfolded and as that eight month mark approached. My time with them was short, and in those three days that I spent with the San Martin family, I tried to fade into the background, and to ultimately create a small body of work that both told the story of their family but also acted as a memory for the family once Diego was gone.

Less than one week after I completed this project, Diego passed away.

The poem painted on the bedroom wall was written by Diego's wife, Vicky, as a love note to her husband.
